Early evening youth art projects. Join us for some after-school fun! Students will create something new each month, using different media and techniques.

 The Weird World of Abstract Art

Students will explore why abstract art is so confusing and strange. They will draw a self-portrait using special abstract art techniques. Pablo Picasso and his “simplified” abstract style will be discussed and used as reference.

A variety of unique art projects throughout the year!

The first series of home school classes will focus on clay hand-building methods (see below).

Home School Arts: Clay Hand-Building Series

A 6-week series, on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays (Sept. 6th & 20th, Oct. 4th & 18th, Nov. 1st & 15th)

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

$90 series/member, $100 series/non-member ($10, plus a $5 supply fee for each session)

Kids will combine their imaginations with basic clay hand-building methods. They will use slabs, coils and pinch pots to explore various ways of creating both functional and sculptural ceramic objects.

Youth Clay: Working on Wheels (six week series)

**ONLY 5 SPOTS available, due to limited wheel access. Book now!**

2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 10 am – 12 pm (October, November, December)

* If the timing of the December classes conflicts with parent/student schedules, alternative dates may be arranged.

Ages 7-17

$110 per session/member, $120 per session/non-members

Instructor Paula Smith will teach students the basic skills required for throwing clay on a potter’s wheel. Once students become more skilled on the wheel, they can work more independently in future studio hours. It is recommended that students have some previous experience working with clay, in order to fully take advantage of the class.

This class provides more one-on-one time with the instructor, given the limited wheel capacity.

Possible Future Classes:

“Snack & Paint” for Kids

A single session class in which the students will pull out the easels and learn how to paint a specific image or theme on canvas. They will paint a picture, enjoy a snack, take home their completed masterpiece and hang it proudly on the wall!

Home School Arts – “Drawing Comics: An Introduction”  AND

After-School – “Drawing Comics: An Introduction”

Introduction to basic storytelling, page layout and panel construction. Familiarity with character drawing is suggested but not required. Traditional, western format at tabloid size will be used.
