About Artist:

Eastern shore based artist, Nadine Brittingham, has been honing in on her illustrative skills over the past decade to develop a consistent style that reflects her passions and perceptions. Formally trained in illustration and graphic design, Nadine combines graphic elements with static compositions alongside organic brushwork with natural wood grains in her works. This series features acrylic paintings on birch wood showcasing various body languages that lead the viewer to feel rather than observe.

Artist Statement:

Engrained is a series devoted to my love of the material, allowing the visible wood grain to determine both the composition and direction of the works. The clarity of emotions adjacent to the organic nature of the wood grains prompts the viewers to reflect on their feelings and relationship to nature. Bold but limited colors are used to highlight and complement the natural beauty of wood grains while conveying scenes with complex emotions. Engrained is a varying experience for each viewer, reflecting through their own interpretations of the engrained works.

Engrained began as a passion project that expanded into self exploration and deeper thought.
