June 24th, 6-8 PM
Figure Drawing is an essential foundational practice no matter what type of art you make. Learning to draw from observation trains the eye to measure proportions, movement, and recognize the relationship between light/shadow. Drawing from life also creates energy and honesty in the artwork that cannot be simulated or replicated by any other means. This class/workshop is intended to teach foundational practices in figure drawing and is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners are welcomed to come to learn basic foundational techniques, and more advanced participants are encouraged to use this time to work with a model as best suits their needs. Whether it’s proportion, anatomy, value, or atmosphere, the instructor will provide constructive feedback to help participants get the most out of this class.
This class will focus on long poses, 10-15 minute poses, and proportions, use of paper/material, how to measure/scale the body, and perspective.
**A live model is being used, minimal coverings**
Materials: Participants will be welcome to bring their own materials for personal preference, or Salisbury Art Space will have materials to choose from. For the purpose of the class, the instructor will be using vine charcoal.
Instructor: Shai Messer
